This week, we sat down with the fabulous Sarah Ganjalier, the smoking hot cannabis coach, that is definitely…. Not Your Parents Stoner.
Through education, training, and her own trials of using medicinal cannabis, she offers curated consultation that will teach you how to create comfortable and safe positive cannabis experiences. Think of her as your own personal vibe adviser here to help personalize your relationship with marijuana.
And for a limited time her consultations are free! So, whether you are buying for a medical or recreational user, give the gift of Elevate, Navigate and Medicate this holiday season!
How did you come up with the idea for your brand Not Your Parents Stoner and what attracted you to the cannabis industry?
What attracts me most to the cannabis industry is the warm sense of welcoming, compassion, and empathy that consumers and those within the industry innately have. It is debatable, however, whether those people TEND to have those traits or if they are just cannabis derived, either way, it was easy for me to want to be a part of it.
Talking to my boyfriend one day, I was expressing my frustrations with being stereotyped as a stoner. Stoned, and therefore being contemplative at the time, I started listing all the traits and interests I possess aside from loving cannabis. I am multiracial and multicultural, was adopted and am a birth mother, was a Polynesian dancer for several years, my interest in astrology is equal to my interest in psychology, I love deep house and techno music, photography, and writing and am also an advocate for child adoption… The stoner stereotype was not an accurate portrayal of who I really am.
My boyfriend then looked at me and said, “You know what? You know how they have those brands that are named ‘not your mothers…?’ That’s kind of like you! Except you would actually be Not Your Parents’ Stoner, because you believe in gender equality.” It was then that a dream was born! My head was immediately flooded with ideas and concepts that would highlight, cater to, and help those consumers who don’t confine to the stereotype, who is essentially everyone.
How would you describe your curated consultations to someone who’s new to cannabis?
I believe that if someone is new to anything, it’s a lot easier to have a trusting and experienced person by your side that knows the ins and outs and can give you the tools of knowledge so you can embark on your own personal journey. This person can answer all of your tough questions and yet also not make you feel unintelligent when asking the “obvious” questions; someone who has seen it and heard it all before so you don’t feel insecure about something private and personal. I also think a lot of people who are new to cannabis don’t have someone currently in their lives that can be that person for them. My Curated Consultations are designed to give those new consumers what they want and need: 1 on 1 attention and an outline of guidance, setting them up for success to have consistently positive cannabis experiences.
Tell me about your Vibe packages. I think these would be great stocking stuffers or a gift for yourself. What are the most popular packages and why?
Curated Vibe Packages are designed more to cater to the recreational user. Since becoming recreationally legal in California, scientific research and discoveries within cannabis have increased drastically while the industry is simultaneously producing products that not only align with these discoveries but are also broadening their scope of target consumers. With all the new additions to the industry, it can be overwhelming for anyone who is just trying to navigate through them to elevate for their daily use or just a particular activity or event.
Not having the funds to take Not Your Parents Stoner into the stratosphere, I have been taking a more creative business approach. “Start low, go slow.” A phrase I once used as advice for those experimenting with edibles has been adapted as my inspiration. Knowing the value of reviewers in new and budding businesses, I am currently only “charging” for a written testimony for anyone interested in Curated Cannabis Packages. Once I feel I am at my peak and am readily prepared for the volume I anticipate, I will take the next step to grow my blooming business.
Because I technically have no “sales” to track, I can’t say that I have a most popular or best-selling package, though the number of requests have been equal for both.
The holidays can be so stressful! A lot of people also have the extra concern of a particular person they wish to better communicate with, or an event they would like to be more comfortable navigating around. There are also those with certain ailments that suppresses their appetite, which can be upsetting to those people who wait all year for that one special and amazing holiday dish. Gifting a Curated Vibe Package would be gifting the confidence and assurance you need during those times. It would also be great for those people who want to bring the family together through cannabis, or if you have a friend or relative that you would like to secretly indulge with, especially if that person is visiting from a state that isn’t yet recreationally legal. The gift of knowledge is a beautiful thing.
In your opinion what is the biggest challenge in the cannabis industry right now, specifically for women? What motivates you to keep going?
In my opinion, the biggest challenge in the cannabis industry right now is that a lot of people aren’t being heard, especially women, who experience this generally and often. Although the cannabis industry has become female dominated, and with more women holding positions of power, men are more likely to have access to capital. I truly believe that since this is a new industry, we have such an incredible opportunity to strive for equality and diversity within. We can make it the best industry the world, in every single aspect.
What keeps me going every day is the vision of potentially what the cannabis industry can become, and knowing I have the gifts to take it where it can go. My creative brain can honestly take that vision in so many places with many different levels and angles, so if I want something quick, I think of the people that I have helped in the past. After only reminiscing for a couple seconds, my heart instantly becomes excited, ready, and wanting to do more good.
How did you get introduced to cannabis, and is it a part of your everyday life?
I got introduced to cannabis at a college party and had sporadically used for years after that. One day, after accidentally purchasing CBD wax, loving its effects even though I wasn’t feeling “stoned,” I learned through research that CBD was excellent for anxiety and PTSD, then started personally experimenting treating myself. Weeks later, I heard “The Anxiety Train” whistle blow, and felt it taking hold of my rails. I reached for the CBD, knowing the train was already in motion and would take an immeasurable amount of time for it to come to a complete stop, and then felt the slight onset of CBD, then felt the train halt to a dead and complete, and comfortable stop. From that day, it has become a part of my daily life. Nothing can ever beat the feeling of feeling like your authentic self every single day, and I will always love that about cannabis.
Do you have a favorite cannabis related story or memory from the Holidays?
My absolute favorite thing to do during the holidays is to consume cannabis and open gifts. It’s SO fun and elevates the gift giving experience when you’re stoned and open up a gift that you truly wanted from someone that you had only hinted at in passing. Watching someone open a gift you got them and see their eyes and heart light up is even better. I suggest either Super Silver Haze, Mango Kush, or a little bit of Hash Plant.
Where are you located? What’s the weed scene like there?
I am located in South Orange County with about only a 20 minute drive to the city of Santa Ana, the only in the county with licenses to recreationally sell cannabis. There is a wonderful variety of shops differing in vibes and inventory within a close proximity of each other so it is perfect for someone like me who loves to do her research on all the things cannabis has to offer!
